Got it free for buying a tv
That being said, im glad i got it for free cause the quality is def subpar. the rear speakers sound aweful. If its not static, no sound, then its the lack of volume. I have tried playing around in these settings but nothing seems to work. The front and center speakers arent that bad, but the rears really take away from enjoying it around you. As far as the player goes i dont have really any issues other than the dont really have buttons...why they went to that ill have no idea. Havent had any errors, reading or loading. If i wouldnt of gotten this free (bought my inlaws a new tv) and had paid there asking price of like 320 roughly i would have been very upset and returned them. Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Exciting at first, disappointing in the end
My husband and I purchased this system one year ago. It was relatively easy to set up, although the cables weren't included and there was a mess of loose wire when we had to move. However, the DVD player is very poor-quality. It never had an easy time with Auto-Play DVDs (read: those for kids, like Disney and Nick Jr. DVDs), and since those make up about 50% of our viewing, that's been a problem. Now, even with regular cleaning, the DVD player won't play even regular DVDs unless we re-insert them about five or six times, on average. And if it's scratched at all, you can forget ever getting it on track; it either says "disc error" or does the pixellated image thing. Meanwhile, our 8-year-old Panasonic plays the same discs without a hiccup; too bad it isn't surround-sound ready. If I had it to do over again, I'd buy Panasonic's equivalent system. Twelve months of usage isn't enough when spending this amount of money. Thursday, May 20th, 2010

better than some...
Have owned this a year now, bought it to replace a Insignia cheapo that the tray wouldn't open/close much and was pleased with the appearance & price. Dvd's look good and sound good but after about 5 months, the player will black out every 5 or 10 min for maybe 2 or 3 sec while hooked up to the hdmi port on my bigscreen Phillips tv. Have tried different cables so it's the receiver/player. Could've called Samsung & sent it back for warranty service, but for the price of shipping, really wasn't worth the bother. The hiccups continue to this day, don't have that prob with any other electronics hooked up to the same tv. Have an LG blu ray player & it works flawlessly!! I've been a big fan of Samsung products, use their optical drives in my computers, but even those are suffering in quality control these days. So, if I had it to do all over again, I'd buy another brand, prob LG and steer away from Samsung, at least for dvd media products. I'll buy a new system for the living room & relegate this one to the bedroom where it'll never be used again. Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Good Basic Unit If You have a Samsung TV
Unit has OK sound. It's nowhere near 1000 watts though. more like 100. Easy to assemble. If you need sound through the unit from the TV, you will need a fiber-optic TosLink cable in addition to the HDMI cable. Our TV, Samsung 42B450 only does audio-in on HDMI (ref p.30 in stereo user manual#. The system works great w/Samsung's AnyNet, 1 remote controls it all. DVD plays all the disks we have- CD-R w/MP3, DVD-RW and R. Bass is too strong at factory settings.
Pros; low cost, goes well w/other Samsung equipment, sound is OK, small center speaker, CD-rip capable, USB and I-POD support.
Cons; Front panel buttons not lighted, 1000 watt claim is a joke, proper cables are not included #HDMI and TosLink)
Overall, we like and will keep the unit. It's for our formal living room and is not the main system.

Love it
Love this surround sound system. Does everything you would expect from a boxed HT system. Got it with a 50" plasma and it works great. Hooked up with HDMI cable and digital optical cable for surround sound and DVD picture. Sounds awesome with movies...star trek, new wolverine x-men movie etc. This is the easiest thing in the world to hook up anyone can do it. Friday, January 8th, 2010
